My name is Michael, and I consider myself to be a highly ambitious student. I reside in the Ngando area with my mother and four siblings, two of whom, Gervas and Evans, are NRCF graduates. My mother is a part-time worker, and my father is a retired craftsman who presently resides in our rural home. I was attending a local school, St. Joseph of Tarpes, before entering the program, and my parents were struggling to pay my school fees and keep me in school. Still, I was a dedicated student who would finish near the top of my class.

I was in grade 7 when I joined the program in 2018. I was immediately enrolled at Nelson Mandela Primary School, one of the program’s focus schools. In 2019, I sat for my Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and scored 389 out of 500 points. I was the top performer in my school and one of the top five performers in the NRCF program.
This achievement gained me a spot at St. Mary’s Yala High School in Siaya County, an extra-county-level boarding boys’ high school. The institution has been dubbed “the gentlemen’s school” because of its reputation for producing moral and visionary leaders like Prof. John Lonyangapuo, the governor of West Pokot County, and the late Tom Mboya, a freedom warrior, among others. In January 2020, I began at the school. I am in my fourth and final year of high school and have worked hard to maintain a respectable grade point average. I’ve been the school captain since I was in third grade. I also serve as president of many clubs, including the mathematics club, the science and engineering club, and the modern dance club.

I want to get an “A” on my final high school exams and be the top student in the program as well as among the top students in my school. I’d want to attend the University of Nairobi and study chemical engineering, which would allow me to create and construct chemical manufacturing processes, or human pathology, which is the study of the causes and consequences of diseases or injuries on the human body.
I am delighted to be a part of the program, and I would like to express my gratitude to my sponsor for supporting me through this educational experience. I want to be a successful alumnus who gives back to the program so that other students may benefit from the same high-quality education I have received.
